Drive Safe! U.S. Roads Deadliest on Earth

Recent studies show alarming rate of death in automobile crashes, despite recent awareness efforts.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention released in a report back in July that more people die in car crashes each year in the United States than in any other high-income country. In fact, a few years ago (2013) more than 32,000 Americans died on U.S. roads according to the CDC. That's more than 90 fatalities a day.

Over an extensive survey of the world's 20 richest countries, the U.S. has the slowest decrease 'Motor Vehicle Death Rate per Capita' over the past 13 years. Purposefully, the CDC concluded approximately 18,000 lives could have been saved had America matched the decreases of countries like Spain and Denmark, whom after concerned efforts have seen mortality decreases of 75.1% and 63.5%, respectively.

The United States also turned in a dismal performance in several other categories. It ranked first in crash deaths per 100,000 people and per 10,000 registered vehicles. America is also the second-highest in the percentage of deaths involving alcohol (at 31%). TheUnited States is also the third-lowest, after Austria and Belgium, in national front seat belt use (at 87%) among the 20 countries.

Really? After all those 'Buckle Up: It's the Law' ads and initiatives? Okay.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported a 7.7% increase in road deaths in 2015, jumping by almost 3,000 deaths from the previous year.

Though there are many things State and Local officials can do to make our roads safer, here are a few things we can all do to stay safe:

Use a seat belt in every seat, on every trip, no matter how short.

Make sure children are always properly buckled into the back seat in a car seat, booster seat or seat belt, whichever is appropriate for their age, height and weight.

Choose not to drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs, and help others do the same.

Obey speed limits.

Drive without distractions (such as using a cell phone or texting).

STAY SAFE OUT THERE AND HAPPY DRIVING!
